Our Preferred Vendors

These are the wedding professionals  (i.e., our favorite peeps!) to work with in the Kansas City Metro.

In a post-pandemic world, it is so important that we as small business owners devote our passion and energy to our fellow community members and neighbors. Small business are the heart and soul of a city; they add individuality, creativity , and infuse the city with unique character and personality.  Fox Road actively supports and patronizes the business of fellow Kansas Citians.
Venues:
This category could be endless as wedding venues have multiplied like bunny rabbits in springtime, so we will break it down into some of the more popular categories with which we are familiar.

Barn Venues:
Budget Friendly: Pine Dell  $2750-3500

Fun, Flexible & Fabulous: Timber Ridge 2,00-4000

Our Favorite  Barns

Pine Dell Horse Farm
This charming and rustic venue, located about 35 minutes south of the Metro, seems to improve a little bit with each season. From a photography standpoint, there are some lovely opportunities for scenic vistas, rustic images, and an authentic country vibe.   The owners are friendly and accommodating, which just permeates your event with the feelings of warmth and family.   After the sun drops their little bridge twinkles with little white fairy lights, offering another great photo op. Since its inception, it's been a very affordable venue for budget-conscious and DIY couples, but without the budget-venue feel.  The downside is that the main barn’s cooling system is not quite as powerful as some people would probably prefer. This could be a little bit difficult on your older or fragile guests during the hotter summer months. But for the price, it's a steal and a lot of fun.

Timber Ridge
Another one of our favorite barn venues, this rustic Amazonia venues has a ton of personality. The main barn is filled with character and easily absorbs the decor  of each couple; Weddings here never feel cookie cutter. There is a genuine and unique character to this property. The bridal suite here is quite lovely, but a little on the small side for brides with more than four to six attendants. The man cave, or groom's room, is sparsely spacious; it’s below the main barn so it trends to the cooler side in the summer months. It's got a gorgeous bridge, their signature truck, a rustic wagon and bonus, it sits on a hill offering some lovely views over the surrounding countryside.  The property is cleverly flexible and able to offer both indoor and outdoor ceremonies. Outdoor ceremonies offer that lovely view from the hill and are not to be missed, weather permitting.  An indoor ceremony can be held in the main barn or out on the little veranda and enclosed with canopy sides, complete with windows and heating lamps. And once again, the owners and staff are incredibly friendly, helpful, and really make their guests feel more like family. Make sure you check the size of your guest list against their seating capacity.   Maximum guest capacity  oftentimes generates some pretty cramped conditions for guests.  Timber Ridge is a little bit more pricey than it's southern counterpart of Pine Dell, but it does appear that it is a worthy investment
Our Favorite Cakery:  Sweet Occasions Bakery

Why we love them:  Andrea makes great cakes with superb frosting.  First, I love to bake cakes.  It has been a hobby of mine for over 20 years.  Frostings can be the difference between a cake being fab or drab. One of my pet peeves is cheap frostings.  Some bakers use cheap ingredients to keep their costs down.  This often results in a lot of uneaten wedding cake. Photographing  and tasting wedding cakes are always one of my favorite parts of a wedding day.  Sadly, I have tasted many more "meh"cakes than "I need a second piece!" cakes.  When I met  Andrea at a bridal faire and tasted her cake with  its fabulous frosting , I knew I had met a " I need the WHOLE cake, please" baker.  Since then, I have happily referred couples to her.  Other considerations when choosing a baker: Can they deliver your cake?  How will they keep it fresh and safe during transport?  Do they have references and reviews?  I have seen a few too many cakes that ended up looking like the Leaning Tower of Pisa because they were not constructed, stored, and transported properly. Carefully consider all of our options when you have a warm weather wedding--EVEN if it is indoors!  The best bakers cannot prevent your cake from suffering the pitfalls of hot-weather hazards!

Our Favorite Budget Cakes:  Hy-Vee

Gasp. Those who know me well would be shocked I would recommend a grocery store cake. However, Hy-Vee might be a great option for brides on a budget or looking to serve a large guest list efficiently or inexpensively. Pairing a large sheet cake from Hy-Vee with a Sweet Occasions masterpiece can also help stretch your wedding budget. The small cake can be put out for decoration, while the larger sheet cake can be cut up earlier in the reception and ready to serve immediately after the newlyweds  cut the cake. Double bonus: Hy-Vee's cakes are actually pretty tasty. They come in a wide variety of flavors and frosting types. With at least 20 stores around the metro, it will be very easy for Hy-Vee to get a cake to you quickly and inexpensively on your wedding day.
Our Favorite Emergency Cake: CostCo

OK, so emergency might be a bit of a stretch, but should someone drop your cake or an unforeseen tragedy befall your sweet confection, make a bee-line for CostCo.  Seriously.  Their cakes are tasty and so budget-friendly.  If you don't like Hy-Vee, you can always swap out the HyVee cake for a CostCo one.

Wedding Planners & Coordinators

Perfectly Imperfect Events

If you can find it in your budget to hire a wedding planner, it is something we would recommend that you do. It may not seem like it, but having someone who is the single point of contact for everything on your wedding day is an amazing stress reliever. They field questions and handle the logistics for you. They attend to all the details, coordinate your vendors, assemble your timeline, advise you, and best of all, they are a fabulous resource for selecting all of the other vendors for your wedding day. Our favorite wedding planner in Kansas City is Amanda from Perfectly Imperfect Events.  From scheduling to decor, she has it all under control. Organized, friendly, and patient, she will make certain that your event is the absolute best it can be ensuring you and your guests enjoy a perfect day!

Videographer

Larry Smith is our favorite for many reasons.  He's professional, efficient, and his work is outstanding.  He is a true cinematographer and filmmaker, not just a guy with a videocamera.  Part of filmmaking is collaborating with other professionals to produce a result that will please the clients.  Larry has the rare experience of working across genres and putting that experience to work for him as wedding videographer.  If photographers and videographers can't work well together, the end result will fall short.  Having worked with him many times, his creative eye and work ethic are a rare combination.  You won't be disappointed if you hire him.
